Winter Themed Speech Therapy Lesson Plan

Needing some winter themed speech therapy ideas as you begin the new year with your students? Here are 3 fun activities we love using in our therapy room that you can easily use too!

Activity #1: Begin with a Snowman themed book! We love using the "That's Not My" series with our early intervention kiddos as well as our preschool/kindergarten students! This companion comes with a variety of activities you can use to target themed vocabulary, attributes, following directions, similarities & differences, spatial concepts, negation, sequencing, verbs and more! Paired with play-props makes it an engaging way for students to participate in the activity while learning and practicing new skills.

Activities in this book companion can also be paired with other snowman-themed books (e.g., use the build a snowman activity with ANY snowman themed book to work on sequencing, following directions and s-blends). Grab the book companion by clicking here.

Activity #2: I know we talk about the critter clinic A LOT but it is honestly one of our go-to therapy activities and is a hit every time! Anna has made it super easy by creating product that transforms your critter clinic into a winter wonderland! Have a blast setting up your winter scene while working on spatial concepts "on", "in",  "beside";  following directions; themed vocabulary and more . *They even include articulation word lists to help spark creative ways to use this activity to work on speech sounds! Grab the resource by clicking here.

Activity #3: End your session with a fun sensory bin! Sensory bins are so fun, engaging and motivating for our students! They are so versatile and VERY easy to adjust for a variety of goals across your caseload. Whether you make one yourself as seen below or want it all done for you (grab Anna's winter themed sensory bin) all you need to do is prep it once and you have it year after year to use along side any winter themed session! I love using them for describing, themed vocab, /s-blends/, syllable segmentation, initial & final sounds, following directions, sequencing, requesting and expanding utterances. Check it out by clicking here!
